Happy Hayden Wesneski Day! One of the Cubs top pitching prospects, and one of the three candidates for the fifth spot in the rotation, is making his second appearance of the spring. The first one went extremely well: 2.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 1BB, 4Ks. More of that, please.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Trey Mancini, DH
- Eric Hosmer, 1B
- Patrick Wisdom, 3B
- Chris Morel, 2B
- Mike Tauchman, RF
- Tucker Barnhart, C
- Brennen Davis, LF
SP: Hayden Wesneski, RHP
Adrian Sampson still feels a little more likely to start the year in the rotation, if not only because the Cubs will want to manage Wesneski’s innings anyway, but he certainly has a shot. And if he keeps pitching well, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get the nod right out of camp.
As for today’s lineup, we’ve got a new double-play combo up the middle, with Hoerner getting some reps in at shortstop and Morel continuing to move around with a start at second base.
Mike Tauchman continues his make-the-team-out-of-camp campaign, and in light of his performance and the injury to Seiya Suzuki, I’d say it’s going well.
Brennen Davis is in left field and Mancini is your DH.
