Justin Turner Taken to Hospital By Ambulance After Being Hit in the Face by a Pitch (UPDATE)

Chicago Cubs

There are no good injuries, but there’s something about a guy getting hit in the face by a pitch that makes me extra squeamish. It’s particularly scary.

Unfortunately that’s what happened today to new Red Sox infielder Justin Turner, who was hit today in the face during a Spring Training game. He immediately came off the field, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

I don’t think I’m going to embed the video of Turner being hit, because it’s really scary. You can see it on Twitter if you must. Be forewarned: it’s gross, as Turner started bleeding profusely right away.

Turner was able to walk off the field, but obviously heading to the hospital thereafter raises concerns. Hopefully he’ll be OK.

UPDATE: So far, this seems like good news, especially if it remains mostly just a soft-tissue situation:

The implication there is that there are no broken bones, and it was just a (really bad) abrasion on his face. Here’s hoping for Turner’s sake.
