Will the Cubs ever lose? Yesterday’s exhibition matchup against Team Canada technically didn’t count towards the Cubs Cactus League record (8-4), but they did win, marking EIGHT in a row. It’s a good thing Spring Training results count towards the regular season win total.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Ian Happ, LF
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Trey Mancini, 1B
- Eric Hosmer, DH
- Yan Gomes, C
- Patrick Wisdom, RF
- Chris Morel, CF
- Nick Madrigal, 3B
SP: Jameson Taillon, RHP
I think, in the absense of Seiya Suzuki, you’re looking at David Ross’ top-4 on the Opening Day lineup. Maybe Mancini plays a different position (DH or RF?), but that’s going to be the top of the Cubs lineup. And if each of those players plays even to their REALISTIC potential, that should be a solid group. Add Suzuki back in and you’ve got a strong top-5. Not world beaters, but strong.
After that, it’s a roll of the dice, much like the Cubs entire season.
Chris Morel continues his tour around the diamond, Madrigal gets more reps at third. And Jameson Taillon is making his third start of the spring. We’ll start to see a little more length out of the starters around now, so expect Taillon to go around three innings if all is going well.
