Cody Bellinger Hits His First “Official” Spring Training Home Run

In his previous at bat, Cody Bellinger drove the ball to deep center field. It looked like he had one. But Corbin Carroll went over the wall to rob it, taking away what would have been Bellinger’s first Cactus League homer. You’ll recall, he hit a homer against Team Canada, but that one “didn’t count” – whatever that means with respect to any Spring Training game.

But ball don’t lie, and the next time up, Bellinger hit it just far enough:

Bellinger, for whatever his small-sample spring numbers say, has been swinging it really well so far this month. I like the calmness at the plate, the deep at bats, the line drives, and now four shots that could’ve/were homers (this one, versus Canada, Carroll’s robbery, and a near grand slam earlier this spring).

None of this means for sure that it’ll translate to the regular season, but I like what I’m seeing at the plate.

Jed Hoyer Confirms That the Cubs Regretted Non-Tendering Kyle Schwarber
