Shohei Ohtani Struck Out Mike Trout to Win the World Baseball Classic for Team Japan

Chicago Cubs

It came down to Shohei Ohtani against Mike Trout.

The two best players in the world. Teammates in another life. Facing each other in a one-run game. With two outs in the 9th inning of the championship of the World Baseball Classic. That’s not a moment. That’s a movie script.

And with the count full, Ohtani got Trout swinging to end the game, to clinch the WBC for Team Japan, and to put a capstone on what has been an incredible tournament. I wanted it for Team USA tonight, but it’s hard to argue with that ending.

There will be so much more to say about this year’s WBC, but for tonight, just enjoy the excitement.
