Matt Mervis didn’t JUST hit homers last year, but he sure did hit a lot of them. Over his stints at High-A, Double-A, and then Triple-A, Mervis hit a whopping 36 homers.
So how is he going to follow that up this year? By immediately homering, of course.
Thanks to Statcast now being available for Triple-A games, I can tell you that Mervis hit that one 381 feet, and 98.1 mph off the bat. I can also tell you that he actually hit his first inning double even further and harder:
Mervis’s homer was actually a back-to-back job with David Bote, and the I-Cubs are just raking tonight. All of Christopher Morel and Nelson Velazquez and Jake Slaughter have multiple hits, too.
