Manny Machado Ejected After Striking Out on Pitch Clock Violation

Chicago Cubs

You knew this was coming eventually. The strikeout (or walk) on a pitch clock violation is the kind of thing that is bound to rile a guy up, and if you argue about it, you get ejected automatically.

So Manny Machado enters the record books:

Machado wasn’t even close to being ready and attentive to the pitcher when his time expired, so I can only assume he though he’d taken a timeout? Otherwise, what else is there to argue about?

I’m sure we’ll hear more about this one soon, but I’m going to preemptively say: rules only work if they are enforced, even in situations where the outcome really ticks a guy off.
