Cub-on-Cub Crime: Watch Seiya Suzuki Take Brandon Hughes Deep in an Intrasquad Game
Seiya Suzuki is probably just about done with his pre-rehab-assignment work in Arizona, capping things off with a home run off of Brandon Hughes in an intrasquad game yesterday.
And thanks to Suzuki, himself, we get a little video of the shot:
Hughes knew it immediately. He saw a few of those last year from the bullpen, and it’s probably less fun when you’re on the mound. But at least he gets the satisfaction of knowing he was there to help in getting Suzuki ready to go for the season?
In all seriousness, there’s no shame in giving up a dong to Suzuki, and Hughes’ outing was apparently pretty good otherwise (4 Ks in his 1.1 innings). He has another week before he could return from the IL, and the Cubs will probably slow-play that one a little bit so they can make sure he’s fully ready to go, and so they can have a little more time to figure out their bullpen plan.
As for Suzuki, I’m hoping we see him out on a rehab assignment somewhere tomorrow. That could set him up to return to the Cubs sometime next week, having missed only eight or nine games. That would be awesome, all things considered.
