You Should Really Listen to What Nelson Velazquez’s Grand Slam Sounded Like a Few Blocks Away from Wrigley Field

Chicago Cubs

If you had been sitting with me in my living room when Nelson Velazquez reached out and tagged a 3-1 fastball above the zone for a grand slam that gave the Cubs the lead tonight, you would’ve heard loud noises. High-pitched, not specifically identifiable as words, and dripping with elation.

It was an incredible moment in a game most of us thought was over just an inning earlier:

But the sounds coming from my living room could not match those at Wrigley Field. Obviously. The crowd there, when plugged into a competitive game, is truly incredible. That explosive throng that can tell you what just happened even if you can’t see it.

For example, if you were a few blocks away from Wrigley Field, listening to the hum of the crowd, and then BOOM. You would know.

Thankfully, Larry Hawley caught exactly that moment tonight when Nelson Velazquez went deep, and it is a must-watch/must-listen:

Chills. I love that so much. I can feel it in my bones.

What a win tonight for the Cubs, and what a moment for Cubs fans. We feed on stuff like this.
