For the second series in a row, the Cubs took the first two but couldn’t pull off the sweep. I’ll never complain about a series win, but I want some brooms.
Marcus Stroman was really solid today, all things considered. The stuff was really good, even if the command was spotty. Despite giving up a couple early runs, he settled in, and wound up getting through six. The Cubs needed that today. The bats didn’t really make it count, but you love to see that from your number one.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are single-handedly resurrecting Jarred Kelenic’s career this series. After two huge games to start the series, he hit one today that reached the UPPER seats in the center field bleachers, which, yeah, that never happens:
It was another brutal day for the home plate umpire – this series was bizarrely awful – but it’s hard to say for sure it would’ve or could’ve been the difference. Just saying it was noticeable again in a way it hadn’t been before this series.
Cody Bellinger went deep in the 9th, which was nice to see, even if it didn’t matter in the final accounting. Would be quite nice for him to get hot.
Off to Los Angeles after tomorrow’s off-day.
