Seiya Suzuki Just Homered in His First At Bat Today for the Iowa Cubs
Not that a home run proves, definitively, that Seiya Suzuki is about all done with his minor league rehab stint and is ready to make his big league debut this year. But, you know, it doesn’t hurt my confidence level!
Today, in what might be his final day with the Iowa Cubs, Seiya Suzuki took the first pitch he saw and sent it off the batter’s eye in center field at Principal Park in Des Moines:
Must’ve been that late-night Qdoba run!
Suzuki, who was delayed because of a spring training oblique injury, figures to be back with the Cubs sometime this weekend in Los Angeles, and I’m sure the team will be eager to add his bat. The so-far-successful start to the season for the Cubs has obscured how critical he is to their success this season. The potential in his bat tops that of pretty much anyone else in the lineup, and with a year of acclimation in MLB, there are reasons to bet on a breakout.
