Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 8, Dodgers 2 – April 14, 2023
Hello there, Cubs bats! Clearly they were invigorated by the return of Seiya Suzuki, who himself hit one of their FIVE homers in the game. The Dodgers hit just two, which has to be really embarrassing.
Justin Steele pitched seven very strong innings, giving up those two solo homers, but nothing else. He struck out eight, and generally had Dodgers batters flailing. He got 17(!) swings and misses on the night.
Yan Gomes had three hits including two homers, Ian Happ was perfect at the plate (including two doubles and a homer), and Cody Bellinger doubled and walked in his return to Dodger Stadium. It was just a tremendous offensive performance almost across the board.
The one exception was a very forgettable night for Dansby Swanson in his return to the lineup, going 0-5 with 5 strikeouts. Four those were him swinging through changeups (and looking rough in the process), so let’s just say he was not picking up changeups well last night.
But that’s about the only sour note from an otherwise explosive win for the Cubs. In Los Angeles. Against the Dodgers. Great night.
