This is probably one of the toughest Enhanced Box Scores I’ve ever had to write up. Who the heck gets top billing?
- Patrick Wisdom had a three-hit game, including not one, but TWO homers, tying him for the league lead. He’s now hit five homers in his last four games and is one of the top hitters in MLB.
- Hayden Wesneski started off with absolutely no command … and turned it into seven-innings of one-run baseball on the road. I already wrote up the implications of his start right here if you’re looking for more. But we’ll definitely dive back in again tomorrow, too.
- Cody Bellinger had the first FIVE-hit game of his career, dragging his slash line to an excellent .310/.369/.517 (136 wRC+) with just a 13.8% strikeout rate.
- Nico Hoerner was on base three times and added yet ANOTHER stolen a base, moving himself into the league lead (9).
- Dansby Swanson reached base another three times.
- Seiya Suzuki had three hits.
- Ian Happ was on twice with two hits and 3 RBI.
- Even Yan Gomes had a two-hit game with another RBI.
The only bad performance was Trey Mancini, who’s just really scuffling right now, with an 0-5, three strikeout game.
I mean, just wow. What an absolutely awesome win. The A’s are a terrible team, but this is what you’re supposed to do against terrible teams. Fun, fun win.
Oh, and FINALLY, for the first time since June 30, 2021 … THE CHICAGO CUBS ARE THREE GAMES ABOVE .500.
