The Chicago Cubs are going streaking!
They’ve won four games in a row, as well as four-straight series, including one against these very Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend (in L.A.!). This series might be a little tougher, though. While all four games will be played at Wrigley Field, the pitching matchups are not nearly as favorable.
Last weekend, the Cubs faced Noah Syndergaard, Michael Grove, and Julio Urias. This weekend, they’ll get Urias and Grove again, but also Clayton Kershaw, who’s still doing his thing (2.52 ERA over first four starts) and Dustin May. Those are tough draws, and I especially don’t like facing two more lefties, given the way Trey Mancini (and Eric Hosmer) have been playing, plus Ian Happ’s slower start from the right side of the plate.
Then again, the Cubs (as a whole) do have a 125 wRC+ against left-handed pitching this season, with everyone from Patrick Wisdom (especially Patrick Wisdom), to Seiya Suzuki, Nick Madrigal, Nico Hoerner, Dansby Swanson, and even Luis Torrens/Yan Gomes picking up the slack. Either way, Urias and Kershaw are not your regular left-handed pitchers.
The Cubs also won’t get the benefit of throwing Justin Steele in this series, though they are adding Marcus Stroman. And, hey, who knows? Maybe the momentum built from the back-half of the rotation, especially Hayden Wesneski, can carry forward.
