Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 13, Dodgers 0 – April 21, 2023
Of COURSE I wanted to see history today. And of COURSE that was a completely ridiculous and BS way for the perfect game to end in the 8th inning.
But how could I feel anything but EXTREMELY good about all parts of that game? That was one of the most fun afternoons of Cubs baseball I’ve had in a long time, and it’s not even like it’s been a bad stretch! It’s just that this was the best of a long stretch of lots of happy games!
Drew Smyly was unbelievable. I’m gonna sell him short just trying to describe it in my haste to get the EBS up and out, so you can presume there will be much more on his tremendous outing. It was the first time a Cubs pitcher had been perfect through seven innings in 30 years. (And he struck out 10!)
Smyly wasn’t the only great thing today, of course, because the bats – up and down the lineup – just smoked the Dodgers today. It was a game started by JULIO URIAS! And the Cubs absolutely blew them out.
The offense is doing things it hasn’t done since it wasn’t even the Cubs:
More soon on this big win, but mostly I just want to rest in the glow of a perfect win (even if not a perfect game).
