More complete thoughts coming tomorrow on losing this series to the Dodgers, but I’ll preview it by saying that I’m not freaking out.
I don’t love seeing Marcus Stroman with his first rough outing of the year (but the Dodgers can hit), I don’t love that the bats were mostly quiet again today (but the Dodgers can pitch), and I don’t like that the bullpen once again kinda let things get out of hand late (well, one guy anyway … ).
I am bummed that we’re not seeing more production out of the 1B and DH spots, and today’s game was a reminder of how much the Cubs might be leaving on the table by not more aggressively bringing up some of the younger guys (I understand why the Cubs want the Torrens thing to work out, but you do wonder when the time runs out). We’re not even through a month of the season yet, so I get the patience. At some level, I suppose. But I keep finding myself itchy in games like this.
It was weird to see Ian Happ left on the bench as the Cubs put a little comeback attempt together in the bottom of the 9th, and I wonder if we’ll hear more about that.
