Cubs vs Marlins: Pitching Probables, Injuries, Broadcast Info
All right. Another series win is in the books for the Chicago Cubs, as they fought their way through their first tough stretch in the schedule. And the good news is that they’re still four games over .500 with a slightly easier stretch coming up.
Starting tonight, the Cubs will play three games against the Marlins in Miami to close out April, then they’ll stay on the East Coast for four games against the Nationals, before coming back home for three more against the Marlins. Miami isn’t actually a horrible team, but the Nationals are. And you really have to hope to come out of that 10-game stretch with a winning record (6-4 should be the goal, 7-3 would be a huge win).
After that, it’s the first series of the year against the Cardinals, which feels like it’ll be a big one. That series also kicks off the next tough stretch for the Cubs, who’ll get the Twins (3), Astros (3) and Phillies (3) all on the road, before coming home for a series against the Mets (3). So, yeah, let’s win as many of these next 10 winnable games as possible, please.
Zooming back into this series, the Cubs have their two best starters going tonight (Marcus Stroman) and Sunday (Justin Steele). Saturday is still TBD (Jameson Taillon’s spot), though Caleb Kilian is likely going to be the guy. Despite being the Cubs top pitching prospect coming into 2022, Kilian didn’t have a great debut last season … and it hasn’t exactly gone well this year, as he continues to struggle mightily with his command. I’m guessing the Cubs are going to try their best not to use guys who can go multiple innings, like Adbert Alzolay or Keegan Thompson, tonight, in preparation for tomorrow.
