At Last: Matt Mervis is Coming Up Tomorrow

Is there a more unexciting way for this news to FINALLY drop than on the heels of a terrible week of games that could’ve been assisted by more offense AND in the middle of a game the Cubs are losing?

I’m not even going to complain. I’m just relieved that it’s finally happening. Matt Mervis is coming up tomorrow, per Jeff Passan:

We’ll see how the Cubs accommodate Mervis on the roster. The 40-man has an open spot, so he’ll be added there easily enough. But will the Cubs finally cut bait on Eric Hosmer, or will they option Edwin Rios or Nick Madrigal? Temporarily dropping down a pitcher? We’ll see soon enough.

I’m glad Mervis is coming. I wish the circumstances were more joyful rather than relieving, but at least it’s happening. More soon.
