Back to .500. I really, REALLY, do not want to go back under .500. Against the Washington Nationals. With a broken Patrick Corbin on the mound. Please make it stop. Here’s a look at the Chicago Cubs lineup for Game four of four in Washington D.C.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Ian Happ, LF
- Cody Bellinger, CF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
Notes.
Washington Nationals Lineup:
- TBA
Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Jameson Taillon, RHP
Jameson Taillon is back! The Cubs offseason free agent signing looked like he was about to hit his stride just before hitting the injured list with a groin strain. But he’s back earlier than expected, albeit likely on a pretty strict pitch count (maybe like 60 pitches). But Javier Assad is here on almost full rest to piggyback off him once he comes out of the game.
Washington Nationals: Patrick Corbin, LHP
Boy. What a fall it’s been for Patrick Corbin. The Nationals signed him to a six-year, $140 million deal back in 2019. And while his first season was very solid (33 starts with a 3.25 ERA), it has been an absolute death spiral ever since: 79 starts, 5.81 ERA. And this season is no exception. Corbin has started six games so far, allowing a total of 20 earned runs in 31.1 IP (5.74 ERA). Take note that (1) righties have absolutely destroyed Corbin so far this season (.336/.376/.543) and (2) the Cubs lineup has a whole lot of experience and success against him.
- Swanson: 9-35, 2 2Bs, HR, 4BB, 4K
- Mancini: 4-11, 2B, 3K
- Bellinger: 3-11, 2B, 3BB, 3K
- Happ: 3-8, 2B, HR, BB, 3K
- Hoerner: 4-4, 2B, BB
