The Cubs were really missing Yan Gomes over the past week while he recovered on the concussion IL. His skills with pitchers and behind the plate are well documented, but this year, the guy was also just RAKING. That was huge for the Cubs from the catcher spot.
It was fair to wonder if Gomes would come back a little behind the curve, having missed time. But nope:
That’s 106.5 mph off the bat for Gomes! Old guy still has plenty of power.
That is already Gomes’ 6th homer of the year in just 73 plate appearances. He had 8 all of last season with the Cubs.
