Let me tell you about all the things you aren’t allowed to do on the baseball diamond around an MLB umpire.
Physically accost anyone? Don’t do it. Scream profanities about another’s spouse or mother? Come on. Question the application of the pitch clock and its violation? No, for real, you aren’t allowed do that either. Celebrate a correctly called check swing? DON’T YOU FREAKING DARE.
The gaul on Christian Walker to applaud the correct check swing call on his teammate. Get this guy straight to the showers:
If you’re wondering what the heck that as about, well, you’re like everyone else watching. The implication is that Walker was ejected for his celebration because the umpire took it as sarcastic. This had happened the inning before (the second video):
So clearly the umpire was primed for Walker to do anything that could possibly irk him, or otherwise chap his tender hide.
I get that Walker was PROBABLY being overly demonstrative in his applause because of the earlier call, but you’ve gotta have thicker skin than that, man.
The Diamondbacks would go on to win the game even without Walker, one of their better hitters. So all is well that ends well, but I expect home plate umpire Alfonso Márquez won’t be attending the theater any time soon. Too much applause.
