Cubs vs Mets: Lineups, Pitching Matchup, Broadcast Info, Game Thread
The Professor is back. The Cubs lineup is clicking. The Mets are starting the ghost of Carlos Carrasco at The Federal Landmark. And a sweep is on the line — a sweep that could drag the Mets under-.500. Let’s get a win tonight, boys.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Ian Happ, LF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Mike Tauchman, CF
- Chris Morel, DH
- Matt Mervis, 1B
- Patrick Wisdom, 3B
- Yan Gomes, C
The Cubs lineup is looking GOOD tonight. I like the top four, as always. And I still miss Cody Bellinger. But Mike Tauchman has been filling in admirably with three hits including a double, a walk, and an RBI in his last two games.
Meanwhile, you have to feel good about the bottom of your lineup, when your sixth batter is the hottest hitter on the planet, the seventh is a prospect who’s heating up quite nicely…
… your eighth hitter is tied for the top-10 in homers in all of MLB, and your ninth hitter is a plus-plus catcher, who’s also slashing .292/.311/.490 (113 wRC+) with six homers on the year.
Let’s get this freakin’ sweep, man. We need it.
New York Mets Lineup:
- TBA
Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Kyle Hendricks, RHP
The Professor is back! Kyle Hendricks is on the mound tonight in Chicago after a LENGTHY time away from the team. Brett wrote about his return right here if you’re looking for more.

New York Mets: Carlos Carrasco, RHP
Hey, look. Carlos Carrasco is still kicking it. The long-time Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) pitcher made his way to the Mets alongside Francisco Lindor back in 2021. Unfortunately, his injury issues followed him to New York. Carrasco tore his hamstring during his first Mets season, ultimately earning just a 6.04 ERA over 12 starts. After the season, it came out that he had been pitching with a bone fragment in his elbow, which required surgery. But life took a turn for the better last year in his age-35 season, when he made 29 starts with a 3.97 ERA. Carrasco, now 36, has made four starts for the Mets this season, all between 4-5 IP, with a total of 18 earned runs already (8.68 ERA). He’s striking out just 12.8% of the batters he’s facing and has walked 11.6% of them. So, yeah … this Cubs lineup needs to do some SERIOUS damage tonight.
- Swanson: 1-10, 2B, BB, 3K
