Cubs vs Reds: Pitching Probables, Injuries, Broadcast Info

Chicago Cubs

Cubs vs Reds — I’m not saying I’m psychic, but here’s how I began the last series preview against the Mets:

Here’s a theory. The Cubs won zero games against the Astros and then one game against the Phillies. By my math, that means they’ll win two games against the Mets this week before sweeping the Reds in three straight over the weekend! Sound like a plan to you?

And what did the Cubs do? Take two of three from the Mets! That means it’s time for the first Cubs sweep since … the A’s series. Woof. That was a long time ago.

On the bright side, Eric Hosmer is gone, officially now, Nick Madrigal has been sent to Triple-A Iowa, Chris Morel is starting everyday, Matt Mervis is beginning to settle in, Seiya Suzuki is on a hot streak, Nico Hoerner is back from his injury, Cody Bellinger should be back from his injury tonight (this was wrong – I missed David Ross’ comments from earlier in the week, expecting at least another 3-4 days for Bellinger) and Justin Steele pitches this afternoon!

The vibes have been worse.

Now don’t get me wrong, the Cubs are still five games under .500 and 4.5 out of the division lead. But the Reds offer a nice reprieve from the onslaught of playoff contenders that’ve plagued the schedule lately.

Of course, the Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres loom immediately after, so … let’s be sure to bank some wins this weekend, eh?
