Let me say up front that a little pre-game work at a certain position does NOT necessarily mean anything. Especially for a guy that you want to be versatile.
But it’s interesting:
Consider that Morel has struggled at the plate, badly, when he DH’s. Maybe that matters, maybe it doesn’t. The adjustment was coming all along, and maybe that’s just noise tied to the fact that he’s DH’d more often recently.
But also consider that Morel has looked really rough in the outfield. And consider that Matt Mervis is not yet lighting things up at first base, while Trey Mancini has merely been playable. AND consider that Miguel Amaya might draw some DH starts of his own this week. Is there a chance the Cubs might want to see Morel play at first base at some point, just to get his bat in the lineup and to see how he responds defensively?
Something to keep an eye on.
