Oof. Did not need that. The Cubs are already without Adbert Alzolay, and now they’ve lost another of their few reliable relievers. Again.
Michael Fulmer, who came off the Injured List earlier this week, is going right back on:
Michael Fulmer has been put on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain, the same injury as before.
Daniel Palencia recalled from Triple A.— Meghan Montemurro (@M_Montemurro) September 16, 2023
That’s going to take Fulmer out more or less for close to the rest of the regular season. It’s a serious blow to a bullpen that was already fraying, at a time when the team as a whole seems to be wearing down in all phases of the game.
For now, it’s Daniel Palencia returning – I’m not sure he actually left, since he was “sent down” last night when Marcus Stroman was activated – but I wonder if at some point it’ll be Ben Brown or Nick Burdi or Brandon Hughes coming to take that spot.
