In his VERY first start as a big leaguer, Chicago Cubs prospect Alexander Canario has hit a grand slam at Wrigley Field!
Canario was called up to the Cubs nearly three weeks ago, but never got a shot to start, as David Ross vowed to roll with “the guys that got us here.” In fact, Canario hasn’t started in any game since August 30 (at Triple-A) and had only 1 plate appearance since being called up on September 1. But he had a massive grand slam tonight (to go along with an RBI double) and helped really ice this game for the Chicago Cubs.
I think we all needed a moment like that after the series in Arizona. I’m glad Canario was able to provide it.

I just can’t get over how impressive it is to come up to the big leagues, sit for basically three full weeks, and then go 2-4 with a double, a grand slam, and 5 RBI when you finally get to start. Just unreal. And on a different tangent: If Chris Morel is really going to play some third base while Nick Madrigal and Jeimer Candelario are both on the Injured List, then there may be some more opportunities for Canario at DH.
