Down 3-2 in the NLCS and headed back to Philadelphia, not too many were expecting the Diamondbacks to pull this thing out. The Phillies were deeper, more talented, and playing at home. That’s no shot at the Diamondbacks, but it just didn’t look like an even match-up. Heck, it hasn’t looked like a great match-up for the Diamondbacks since the playoffs began.
Still, that’s why they play. Any given Tuesday, or something.
That’s why the playoffs can be so exciting. That’s how we end up with a Diamondbacks-Rangers match-up in the World Series, despite each team only barely making the playoffs. That’s a feature, not a bug.
Diamondbacks 4, Phillies 2 – Diamondbacks Win NLCS 4-3
The Diamondbacks actually had a lot more opportunities to score in this one, but came through just enough to give their pitching a chance to win it. Arizona’s bullpen has been incredible this postseason, and they did it again, holding down a Phillies lineup that rarely took a night off.
