The first non-soccer Saturday in weeks in the Taylor household, and I don’t know what to do with all my free time. JK, I have three kids, time is an illusion.
I do have a little time for Bullets, though …
- The Cubs announced a major renovation project at Wrigley Field for this offseason – insert joke about “Wrigley is getting a roof!”:
- Seems good? Honestly I have no idea about the particulars here, other than something like “make the roof last longer and be safer.” I don’t know that there will be much in the way of a visual or functional difference for fans. Which is not to say it isn’t important, it’s just that it won’t be like the much of the rest of the multi-year renovation from the 2010s.
- Meanwhile, Wrigley Field is a football stadium today, hosting Northwestern-Iowa:
- The AFL Fall Stars roster is out and, as hoped/expected, James Triantos and Kevin Alcántara will be representing the Cubs:
- Triantos currently leads the AFL with a 1.205 OPS (.425/.505/.700), which is particularly impressive given that he’s one of the youngest players in the league. Alcántara, also one of the youngest players in the league, is hitting .253/.326/.532 with an .858 OPS, which is top-20 in the league.
- (Now the question is whether both end the offseason still in the Cubs organization.)
- Cody Bellinger is officially a free agent after last night’s mutual option decline, but he got some nice highlight love from the Cubs beforehand:
- The Parade to End All Parades was seven years ago today:
- Man. Dude stepped up in the biggest moment with a ridiculous game (… and way too many high-stress pitches on the eve of a $200M payday):
- The Cubs may not wind up a serious pursuer of Yamamoto, though they were once again connected to Shota Imanaga this week.
- I will extremely be there (mostly for the Smashing Pumpkins):
