Yesterday, the Cubs loaded the bases twice in the first and second inning against the Dodgers, but failed to score both times. Those opportunities ultimately proved to be their best chances to score all day, as they wound up losing 4-1 at Wrigley Field.
Well today, with the same early opportunity, bases loaded and two outs against the Dodgers, Michael Busch (one of the guys who struck out with the bases loaded yesterday) cashed in with a bases-clearing double to the gap in left-center field.
Umpire can’t screw you with the strikezone when you bounce one off the ivy hit it into the gap.
Michael Busch has had an incredible start to his Cubs career, and we might be talking about the move up the batting order sooner than later. SO far, he’s slashing .333/.414/.542 (155 wRC+) with four walks and six strikeouts.
While we’re here, we can give some love to the guys who got on base first: Ian Happ reached yet again (this time on an error + successful challenge from Craig Counsell), Christopher Morel singled, and Dansby Swanson walked. Some bonus love for Swanson who hustled around the bases and slid in under the tag.
Now keep pouring it on, Cubs.
