After a red-hot first ten games of the season (172 wRC+), Ian Happ had gone ice cold offensively. Aside from continuing to take his walks (he always does), his overall production plummeted to the point where Craig Counsell game him a two-and-a-half day break, DH-ing once before sitting in consecutive games.
And perhaps that paid off. In his first at-bat tonight, Ian Happ turned on a 96.4 MPH fastball, absolutely launching his first homer of the season from the left side of the plate (second overall).
Statcast had that homer at 110.3 MPH off the bat, with a 25-degree launch angle, so it got out of there in a HURRY, cutting the Cubs deficit in half. Hopefully, that break really did do something for Happ, because the Cubs are a better team when he’s on his game.
