At this stage of his career, Justin Turner doesn’t add much on defense, but he can still hit a little bit (.253/.348/.370/109 wRC+ for the Blue Jays).
That’s what the Mariners want to add:
Turner will join Randy Arozarena as buy-low-ish bats that they’re hoping can bring back their offense, and also bring them back against the Houston Astros (who blew past them in the standings).
I wonder how much a rental bat like Turner generates. Probably not much, but we haven’t seen a lot of these guys moved yet.
UPDATE:
An outfielder who just turned 24, who wrecked High-A and was just promoted to Double-A. A 9th rounder in the draft last year, Schreck was an outfielder at Vanderbilt. Seems like an appropriate return – total flier.
