The Cubs are over .500! A winning season! The Cubs are in the midst of a winning season as we speak! (NOW FINISH A DANG SWEEP TOMORROW!)
Justin Steele started out a little shaky and had to labor, but settled in enough to go five innings, allowing just the two runs in the first. It still shortened his night quite a bit.
The Cubs had built a pretty healthy lead by then, so it should’ve been comfortable for the bullpen, whose job was primarily just to throw strikes. That’s why an appearance like Nate Pearson’s – two innings, three strikeouts, no walks, and just a solo homer – actually hits me as pretty darn good in these circumstances.
Keegan Thompson and Daniel Palencia got a chance to get right into the action after their call-ups today, with Thompson looking dominating and Palencia looking too wild. Porter Hodge had to come into the game in the 9th to clean up for the latter, and it’s pretty unfortunate that the Cubs had to use him in what was a 9-2 game.
The Cubs got big homers from Seiya Suzuki and Dansby Swanson, but I gotta give the Ankin Law โMaking it Personalโ Player of the Game honors to Miguel Amaya for his FIFTH STRAIGHT multi-hit game. That’s crazy. And awesome.
