You know the Martin Solveig and GTA song, “Intoxicated.” Even if you think you don’t, I promise you that you know it when you hear it.
Specifically, if you’re a Cubs fan, you will instinctively do two things upon hearing the song: (1) think of Anthony Rizzo, and (2) start clapping your hands and/or stomping your feet to the song’s beat. That’s because, in his later years with the team, Rizzo very famously walked to the plate to the song, and it was a thing. We loved it. Loved it.
So that is what the Cubs played for Rizzo on his walk up to the plate today, in his return to Wrigley Field, even though he now wears a Yankee uniform. And of course he got another standing ovation from the fans:
That might’ve given me as many feelings as the tribute video did. Really takes me back to a different time and place. Sigh.
