CUBS LINEUP โ If the Cubs had simply won more games this season, they’d have a better record. It’s as easy as that. Here’s a look at the Cubs lineup for the finale against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Ian Happ, LF
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Seiya Suzuki, DH
- Cody Bellinger, RF
- Isaac Paredes, 3B
- Michael Busch, 1B
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF
- Miguel Amaya, C
At least this game isn’t on at the same time as the Bears game, eh? At this point in the year, with the Cubs all but mathematically eliminated from contention, the goals are simple – health and productivity from all players expected to return (or looking to opt out!).
Specifically, you want to see …
- Pete Crow-Armstrong continue to succeed, given what he can mean to the Cubs’ chances next season.
- Dansby Swanson to stay (relatively) hot at the plate, because he will be the shortstop again this year and his offensive ability has gone through wild swings all season.
- Cody Bellinger to continue hitting well enough to encourage an opt-out at the end of the year.
Those are my three biggest rooting interests at this point, right alongside Jordan Wicks and Michael Busch finishing the season strong.
Colorado Rockies Lineup:
- Tovae, SS
- Jake Cave, RF
- Brenton Doyle, CF
- Ryan McMahon, 3B
- Michael Toglia, 1B
- Sam Hilliard, DH
- Jacob Stallings, C
- Nolan Jones, LF
- Aaron Schunk, 2B
Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Kyle Hendricks, RHP
Kyle Hendricks likely has just three more starts in a Cubs uniform, including today, and nobody seems to be talking about that. It’s quite odd to me. I feel like that should be a bigger deal. Hendricks has done well enough in each of his last two outings, with 4ER in 9.1 IP against the Pirates at Wrigley and the Dodgers in L.A. You can’t ask for much more than that out of him. For what it’s worth, Hendricks has started five games at Coors Field in his career with a 3.64 ERA. But he also hasn’t started a game there since 2018.
Colorado Rockies: Cal Quantrill, RHP
The Cubs faced Cal Quantrill earlier this season, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks in 4.0 innings pitched. And he was one day and one strikeout away from doing that with 4Ks on 4/04/24. What does it mean? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!
