I have nothing but hatred in my heart for the Dodgers. I don’t care where it comes from, whether it’s justified, or what it says about me or the team I follow. I just f—ing hate the Dodgers.
Top free agent reliever, Tanner Scott, is the latest to join the Los Angeles Super Team of Cowards Who Don’t Want to Compete on a Real Team:
Closer Tanner Scott and the Los Angeles Dodgers in agreement on a four-year, $72 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Scott, 30, was the best free agent reliever available this winter and got paid an elite amount as part of a deep Dodgers bullpen. @Feinsand was on the news.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) January 19, 2025
The Cubs had popped up in Scott rumors this weekend, but for all we know, that was just enough to push the Dodgers over the line to get a deal done.
We’ll see to what extent the deal is ACTUALLY worth $72 million, or if it’s a Dodger special, payable in 2085. Good on Scott for getting the deal he wants or whatever, but this cannot be good for the sport. I’m just so bitter.
Anyway, the Cubs, whom I believe will never again sign a late-inning reliever to a big multi-year deal until they finally do it, will have to look elsewhere for a reliever addition. I never thought Scott was especially likely, so at least there’s that. Kirby Yates, Kyle Finnegan, Tommy Kahnle, Carlos Estevez … just do something. We can be bitter about what the Dodgers are doing, but that doesn’t change the Cubs’ needs and their ability to still close out this offseason successfully.
UPDATE: Just for posterity, some rumors about who finished second. But who cares.
It was down to the Cubs and Dodgers but its LA that adds another top arm. https://t.co/O0yLMLnJZ2
