What is a Cash Game in DFS?
A cash game in DFS is a contest where about 50 percent of the entries win the same cash prize. This allows participants to win even without having the best score from their lineup. There are plenty of different cash games such as double-ups, 50/50 games, and head-to-head matchups.
In all of these types of contests, entrants have a 50 percent chance of winning. If you enter a cash game with 100 players, you just need to finish in the top 50 to win.
Daily Fantasy Sports Cash Games Strategy
In cash games, you are looking for consistency with your cash game lineup. You don’t need to finish first so you don’t have to take any serious risks with your bankroll to earn a payout. So instead of high-upside players, you want players with high floors.
In an NFL cash game, you want to select consistent quarterbacks, running backs, and more. A high-floor QB or RB is what is called a chalk player. They are expected to perform well and are the types of players many DFS players will gravitate to for their roster in a cash game format.
DFS Cash Games vs GPP
Now, let’s discuss the difference between a cash game and GPPs. A GPP is a guaranteed prize pool tournament. In this type of tournament, the top finishers will receive a bigger prize. So you can’t just finish in the top half of the field to win cash with your GPP lineup in an NFL DFS contest.
Because the prize money mostly goes to the top players, you will see lineup construction involves different strategies. You will see the number of entrants who join probably picking higher-upside players for a shot to separate them from the field.
