It’s been a whirlwind Tuesday in the sports world, but especially in the golf community. Completely out of left field, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf Tour announced a merger of their two tours (as well as the DP World Tour). The DP World Tour was already a partner of the PGA Tour and plays most of their events overseas.
From all accounts, this move came as a total shock to just about everyone – including most if not all players on both tours, as well as media personalities. Shockingly enough, according to the Saudi Arabia PIF governor, even LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman wasn’t informed until a few minutes before the official announcement this morning.
With all of that said, we’ve gotten a ton of reactions on Twitter from those in the golf world this morning. Some making jokes, some expressing frustration, but just about everyone was completely stunned.

As you can see, a whole lot of varying reactions from PGA Tour players, LIV Golf players, golf media members, and everyone in between. Some of the main voices in golf who have been the most outspoken on this story in the past two years have yet to make a statement or speak on the merger. Some of those names include Rory McIlroy, Brandel Chamblee, and LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman among others.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan will meet with PGA Tour players this afternoon to discuss the merger. I would imagine we’ll get some more reactions and news after that goes down. Here’s the letter he sent to all PGA Tour players this morning after the announcement.
It’s still amazing to me that seemingly the entire golf world was at Oak Hill for the PGA Championship just two weeks ago. PGA and LIV both had representation there. And not a single peep or leak about this merger came out. Just goes to show how few people knew about this.
