March is basically upon us and it’s Selection Sunday is within our grasp. Thirty Two automatic bids will be handed out over the next two weeks along with 36 at-large spots. The Atlantic Coast Conference has a handful of spots locked up but will be looking to represent with a half dozen or more teams next month. Let’s take a look at where we stand on answering the question: “how many ACC teams in the NCAA tournament?”
Six ACC Teams in March Madness?
The ACC is all but guaranteed to send five teams to the NCAA Tournament. Virginia, Miami, Duke, North Carolina State, and Pittsburgh have secured their berths to the big dance. One of them very likely to grab the automatic bid on March 11th. North Carolina is looking like they will be making it at least six after a big win Saturday night over Virginia.
Which teams are on the bubble?
Currently, North Carolina is sitting firmly on the bubble with Clemson right behind them. Both would need strong finishes or deep runs in the ACC tournament to find themselves in the field of 68. North Carolina’s win over sixth-ranked Virginia likely has then on the right side of the cut line for now. Clemson probably still needs a push to get in at this point. Best guess is that only one of the two make it and we end up with six ACC teams in the NCAA Tournament.
Who will win the ACC tournament?
Miami is currently the favorite to win the regular season title at FanDuel Sportsbook and should be one of the favorites along with Virginia. But, upsets can and often do happen this time of year. All fifteen teams will compete in the ACC Conference Tournament. While more than a handful don’t have a realistic chance of winning there are probably about a half dozen teams with a shot.
