MAC Tournament Preview
Toledo has won 15 straight, clearly has the best offense in the conference, and opens with a team they beat by 18 three weeks ago. Clearly the favorite for a reason, but could run into some trouble off that bat if they are matched with Ohio in the semis. Sort of the same team (great offense, not so great D), but younger and less consistent. Ohio/Toledo would be fun since we could have 200 points and maybe even an upset.
Kent State is the league’s top defense and also had a hell of a year, finishing 25-6. I really do think their price is a bit off as the path is almost certainly Akron and Toledo, two teams they went 1-2 against with their only win coming in overtime. They’re great but that’s a tough ask if the offense bogs down in an unfamiliar environement.
If a person shopped around, you can find 4/1 or better on the third-favorite in this one. As mentioned, they have a win against Kent State and are likely the most balanced team here in Cleveland. Low turnover rate, high FT%, probably the only knock is a bit of reliance on the three at times.
MAC Tournament Prediction
Akron hung with Kent State on the road to close the season, beat them earlier in the year and and opens the tournament with a Buffalo team they handled twice. The path to the final seems pretty open for a team priced like they are. If it’s Toledo in the final, we’ll deal with it then.
My Bet: Akron +380
