Golf, News

Looking for some tips on how to do well in your Masters pool? Here’s a guide and some tips on how to win your Masters pool.

Repeat Champions are Rare

Only three players have ever been able to repeat as Masters champion. They are Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods. Scottie Sheffler would be in rare company if he was able to pull out a victory in this year’s tournament. He has been playing some great golf though.

American vs Foreign Players

It has been basically alternating between American and foreign players in recent years with Americans winning four of the last seven. The last five winners have been Patrick Reed in 2018, Tiger Woods in 2019, Dustin Johnson in 2020, Hideki Matsuyama in 2021, and Scottie Scheffler in 2022.

This Year is Top Heavy

It’s looking like a top-heavy year for the Masters. You might want to stay away from sleepers in the field with so many great players at the top looking to score low for golf’s biggest tournament.

Top players such as Scottie Scheffler (+700), Rory McIlroy (+700), Jon Rahm (+850), and Jordan Spieth (+1600) are among a strong group of golfers that have a shot to win.

Pick a Few Who are a Lock to Make the Cut

You are picking six golfers in your Masters pool. In some cases, every single golfer and their score counts for the final result. If any of your players miss the cut, they usually are listed with a score of 80 for rounds three and four which can kill your score.

Pick at least two guys you think are a lock to make the cut. This gives you at least two scoring golfers out of four when combining scores at the end of the tournament.

Selecting Golfers in a Masters Pool

For most Masters pools, you will be selecting six golfers for your team. You select one golfer from six different tiers that are broken up based on world golf ranking. At the end of the tournament, your top four golfers’ scores are combined. The lowest combined score wins the pool.

Popular Golfers to Select in Tier 1 for the 2023 Masters

Some of the top picks for this year’s tournament in tier 1 of your Masters pool include Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Colin Morikawa. Scottie Scheffler is the returning champion, but repeat winners do not happen often at Augusta.

McIlroy, Rahm, and Morikawa are all looking for their first green jacket. McIlroy finished second in 2022 while Morikawa finished fifth. Jon Rahm’s best finish at Augusta is fourth back in 2018.
