What the Heck Is Viktor Hovland Wearing At The Masters?
The best week in golf is here as The Masters kicked off Thursday. The pageantry, the history, it’s all great. What isn’t so great? Whatever Viktor Hovland is wearing for his opening round.
The Norwegian Hovland is outfitted by the Swedish clothing company J. Lindberg. Hovland’s outfits this week are inspired by the 13th hole “Azalea” because of the world-famous azalea beds that surround the 13th green.
According to the J. Lindberg website, “Our signature KV Golf Polo is one of the best-performing styles round after round. This season, bolder is better- it features the iconic JL logo across the back and an embroidered logo on the collar, as well as an all-over eye-catching digital print in a watercolor design that’s exclusive to this season’s Tour Collection.”
If you want to buy Hovland’s shirt it costs $115 plus shipping. J. Lindberg will outfit Hovland all weekend and the looks get a little bit less garish as the week goes on. I would say they should flip the Saturday and Sunday looks. The shade of green in Hovland’s Sunday shirt would clash with the green jacket were he to win it.
Maybe Bold Fashion Will Help Viktor Hovland Contend at a Major
Perhaps the bold choice of fashion will turn Hovland’s major futures around. He hasn’t been bad. He’s only missed one cut in 12 major appearances. He hasn’t been close to winning one either, though. He has one top-ten finish at a major. Hovland finished tied for fourth at St. Andrews in The Open last year. He was six shots behind the winner Cam Smith.
Hovland turned some heads at Augusta in 2019 when he finished tied for 32nd as the low amateur. He is yet to crack the top 20 there, however. Hovland finished tied for 21st in 2021. He followed that up by finishing tied for 27th a year ago.
Hovland got off to a good start on Thursday. He made an eagle on the second hole to move into a tie for the lead. There’s a LOT of golf left obviously, but so far the bold shirt is paying off.
