Missing Work This Week Costs Rory McIlroy Millions

Golf, News

The winner of the RBC Heritage will be crowned this Sunday. In addition to the Tartan Jacket and trophy, will also pocket a very nice $3.6 million paycheck. Rory McIlroy has already LOST nearly that much cash this week.

According to Sports Illustrated, the PGA tour will deduct three million dollars from Rory McIlroy’s PIP winnings after missing the RBC Heritage. The PIP was a way to evaluate which players brought the most amount of exposure (and thereby revenue) to the PGA tour via social media. Rory finished second behind only Tiger Woods last year and was allocated $12 of the $40 million PIP fund.

When pressed on is he considered skipping the event as a bit of a victory lap after securing his first green jacket, Jon Rahm replied with a strong statement on how he feels about honoring the commitments he makes to the tour and the fans.
