Jaren Jackson Jr. Wins 2022-23 Defensive Player of the Year Award

The Memphis Grizzlies Jaren Jackson Jr. is the 2022-23 NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Just 23 years old, Jackson Jr. is in his fifth season in the NBA and finished with a career-high 18.6 points and 6.8 rebounds. He finished as the league leader in blocks per game with 3.0 and his +3.0 estimated defensive plus-minus finished in the NBA’s 99th percentile, per Dunks & Threes.

Memphis finished with the NBA’s 3rd-best defense in the regular season thanks primarily to Jackson Jr.’s work in the frontcourt. The switchable big man received 56 first-place votes, whereas the second-place Brook Lopez recorded 31 first-place votes. The Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley finished in 3rd, while the Warriors’ Draymond Green was 4th.
