Pittsburgh Steelers 7-Round Mock Draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers boast seven total picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, starting with the 17th overall selection. They will then draft at the start of Round 2 with pick 32, thanks to a trade with the Bears involving Chase Claypool last year, followed by two more selections within the first 80 and three more in Rounds 4-7.
This year the team’s draft needs are offensive tackle, cornerback, linebacker, and defensive back.
For this 7-round mock draft, I’ll be using the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator.

2023 Pittsburgh Steelers 7-Round Mock Draft
Round 1: Pick 17 Overall
Pick: Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
This pick just makes sense. There’s a clear history here, as Porter’s father, Joey Porter Sr., sits fifth on the Steelers’ all-time sack list and was hired as a Pittsburgh defensive assistant in 2014 by current Head Coach Mike Tomlin.
Prior relationship aside, the Steelers need a strong and physical corner, and Porter fits well into their system as a versatile athlete who can play man coverage. It’s a position they haven’t invested in heavily in recent years, and Porter Jr. would add value to the future of their secondary.
Round 2: Pick 32 Overall (via Bears)
Pick: Dawand Jones, T, Ohio State
At 6’8,” 374 pounds, Jones is a massive presence and exactly what the Steelers need to anchor their offensive line for the foreseeable future.
Round 2: Pick 49 Overall
Pick: Keeanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin
Benton has experienced a surge up NFL Draft boards among the interior defensive line rankings and fits well with Pittsburgh’s current roster. He has raw strength, length, and the football IQ to defend both the pass and rush for the Steelers.
Round 3: Pick 80 Overall
Pick: Chandler Zavala, G, NC State
Here’s another big-bodied piece for the Pittsburgh offensive line, which needs shoring up on the left side. Zavala has an NFL-ready frame and could be just what they need to get that run game going in 2023.
Round 4: Pick 120 Overall
Pick: Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
The Steelers need a slot guy and Washington can come in and compete with Calvin Austin for the role. At just 21 years old, the former Nittany Lion can do some damage over the middle and isn’t afraid to play in traffic.
Round 7: Pick 241 Overall (from Vikings via Broncos)
Pick: Tyrus Wheat, EDGE, Mississippi State
The former Bulldog adds some depth to the outside linebacker room.
Round 7: Pick 251 Overall (via Rams)
Pick: Jason Taylor II, S, Oklahoma State
Pittsburgh has one-star safety already on the roster in Minkah Fitzpatrick but could use some depth and youth at the position. Talyor has the NFL pedigree and would be a strong addition to the Steelers’ defense.
