Brian Flores’ firing in Miami and his lawsuit against the Dolphins, Giants, Broncos, and the NFL that followed made waves this time last year. After they fired Flores despite two winning seasons as head coach in 2021 (9-8) and 2020 (10-6), Flores filed a lawsuit against the NFL and its teams, alleging racial discrimination in hiring practices.
After spending a season as the linebackers coach in Pittsburgh, the Cleveland Browns have requested permission to interview the former Miami head coach for their vacant defensive coordinator position:
The Browns fired defensive coordinator Joe Woods early Monday morning and have made Flores their first target. After Cleveland failed to meet their playoff expectations changes on Kevin Stefanski’s coaching staff figure to be coming.
Flores helped the Dolphins go from one of the worst defenses in football to an above average defense during his time in Miami. From year one (2019) to year two (2020) under Flores the Dolphins went from dead last in the NFL in scoring defense (30.9 points per game) to tied for fifth in the league (21.5).
Since Flores is under contract with the Steelers, Pittsburgh has to grant the Browns permission to interview Flores. And that’s a move I don’t see the Steelers having an issue with.
