The Cleveland Browns have a new defensive coordinator this morning according to a report by NFL insider, Tom Pelissero. According to Pelissero, Cleveland is hiring Jim Schwartz as their new DC.
For the past two seasons, Schwartz has served as the Senior Defensive Assistant with the Tennessee Titans. His hire in Cleveland will mark the fourth time he has served as a defensive coordinator in the NFL.
The 56-year-old previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Eagles (2016-20), Bills (2014), and Titans (2001-08). Schwartz was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2013, posting a 29-51 record with the Lions.
Schwartz met with the Browns on January 11 and was one of five known candidates for the Browns defensive coordinator position. Former Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai interviewed with Cleveland on Monday.
Schwartz was the Philadelphia Eagles DC when they won the Super Bowl in 2017. Philadelphia ranked first in the NFL in rushing defense and third in rushing touchdowns under Scwartz in 2017 when they won the Super Bowl.
The Browns also met with Steelers linebackers coach and former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. Cleveland was also linked to the Patriots Jerod Mayo and Eagles defensive pass game coordinator Dennard Wilson.
