The Kansas City Chiefs might have a problem. A huge problem. Patrick Mahomes is dealing with an apparent ankle injury after taking a hit on the Chiefs’ second drive of the game.
After Arden Key landed on Mahomes’ ankle awkwardly, Mahomes came up limping and grabbing for his right ankle.
Mahomes stayed in the game for a play and hobbled backward on a hand off before he eventually went to the sideline to have his ankle taped.
Kansas City’s drive would stall with the Mahomes in visible discomfort, and the Chiefs ended up with a field goal. Chad Henne has entered the game for the Chiefs as Mahomes has gone to the locker room to receive treatment.
Mahomes was visibly frustrated on the sideline, throwing his helmet after learning that he would be taken out. Mahomes can be seen here on the sideline lobbying with Andy Reid to remain in the game despite the injury:
I’m sure the plan is for Mahomes to come back. Still, the injury didn’t look good for him, and he won’t be close to 100 percent if he does come back.
This changes things significantly for the Chiefs, and more specifically, the Jaguars game plan.
Mahomes has been officially ruled as questionable to return by the Chiefs:
UPDATE (Michael): Mahomes came back out after halftime. We’ll see if he’s able to stick it out for the rest of the game.
