After missing a record FOUR extra points last week, Brett Maher was given a vote of confidence by Mike McCarthy. Maybe McCarthy is regretting that now.
Maher’s first attempt of the night was BLOCKED … and that may be lucky, because it looked like it was going to miss by a mile before that.
I know that some people (including Webster’s Dictionary) like to throw the term “Yips” around, and I don’t usually buy into that stuff, but what other explanation is there at this point?
Maher has been brutally bad in his chances this postseason. The blowout win over the Buccaneers didn’t warrant any big kicks, but this game seems like it might. It’ll be interesting to see what Mike McCarthy does on a borderline field goal situation.
Even with the block, it’s a pretty uncommon occurrence. As Adam Schefter tweeted, Maher’s blocked extra point tonight was just the eighth of the season:
