Super Bowl 57 Moneyline and Point Spread Overview: Chiefs vs Eagles

The final game of the 2022-2023 NFL season is upon us, and sportsbooks have opened the lines for us to start making bets. The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, 2023.

The Eagles’ odds opened as slight -130 moneyline betting favorites against the Chiefs, listed at +110. Odds may vary slightly based on the online sports betting site you use, and as more injury news comes out ahead of the game, there could also be swings in either direction. As it stands, here are the current odds for the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57 on February 12:

  • Moneyline: Eagles -125, Chiefs +105
  • Super Bowl Spread: Eagles -1.5 (-110), Chiefs +1.5 (-110)
  • Total for Super Bowl LVII: Over/Under 50.5 Points (-110/-110)

How Does a Sportsbook Set Super Bowl Odds?

Sportsbooks set Super Bowl odds by considering factors that could affect the game’s outcome, such as injuries (like the ankle of Patrick Mahomes that seemed apparent in their AFC Championship game against the Bengals) , weather conditions, and past results. They also assess other factors, such as home-field advantage and how well each team plays at the time. Sportsbooks use statistics and analytics to determine which teams are likely to win or lose any given matchup. Based on that analysis, sportsbooks assign point spreads and moneylines for each game.

This point spreads and moneylines are used to calculate the odds for each team in the Super Bowl matchup between the Chiefs and the Eagles. Additionally, these formulas, public sentiment, and professional opinion will force the sportsbooks to adjust the odds accordingly. This helps them ensure they have a competitive edge over other sportsbooks regarding offering favorable betting lines. With the Eagles and Chiefs finishing the regular season at 14-3, it’s no surprise that neither option is favored by even a field goal ahead of the Big Game at State Farm Stadium.

Chiefs and Eagles Super Bowl Picks and Best Bets

The AFC Champion Chiefs and the winners of the NFC Championship, Eagles, took two very different roads throughout the playoffs, which makes it even more difficult for bettors to pin down how we should be picking against the spread (ATS) for Super Bowl 57. With Philadelphia practically having a week off because of numerous injuries to San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks, it’s no wonder that the Eagles spread has gone anywhere from -2.5, to -2, and as low as -1.5. This is almost identical to the Chiefs’ spread ahead of their AFC title game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

With the line movement fluctuating, the best betting odds maybe somewhere in the player props, which is commonly where you’ll find the best value in a typical NFL game. Judging by the props we outlined above, a great value at its current payout could be Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon scoring an “anytime” touchdown for +165. McKinnon had a blistering end to the regular season. Throughout the team’s final six regular season games, he scored eight receiving touchdowns.

Jerick McKinnon’s +165 anytime touchdown could be the best Super Bowl bet if you’re looking to avoid the opening point spread or predict who will win the game.

How the Eagles can Cover the Spread

The Eagles’ defense and the offensive line will boost the Eagles’ Super Bowl odds. Their defensive line, headed by Haason Reddick, Brandon Graham, and Josh Sweat, has been wreaking havoc throughout the season, including the Haason Reddick sack that knocked 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy out of the NFC Championship game. On the other side of the ball, Philadelphia boasts the league’s best offensive line and is one of the driving factors for why they are in the Super Bowl in 2023.

Jalen Hurts’ breakout season led many to speculate that he was in the lead as the NFL’s 2022 MVP; he was forced to miss some time with a shoulder injury toward the end of the regular season. One way to negate the power pass-rushing tendencies of the Kansas City Chiefs could be to get Hurts’ legs involved in the offense from the beginning.

How the Chiefs can Cover the Spread

Though Andy Reid and the Chiefs’ coaching staff could likely operate a decent offense with anyone behind center, a fully healthy Patrick Mahomes makes the coach-QB tandem the most unstoppable force in the league. Mahomes is now a staggering 10-3 during his career in the postseason, and he continued his playoff prowess in the AFC Championship game. At the same time, receivers Kadarius Toney, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Mecole Hardman spent some or most of the game on the sidelines.

The Kansas City secondary will have their hands full with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but they have a formidable pass rush that should disrupt the deep passing game of Hurts and Co. To combat the Eagles’ aggressive play-calling and eloquent mix of run and pass plays, the Chiefs will need a fully healthy offensive unit, including Mahomes, who suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Buffalo Bills, to keep the pressure on and cover the spread on Super Bowl Sunday.
