Report: Georgia DL Jalen Carter Misled Police About Teammate’s Fatal Crash (UPDATE: Carter’s Statement)

Chicago Bears, NFL

According to a new report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia DL and potential Top 5 pick in the NFL draft Jalen Carter was present at the scene of a fatal car crash involving a Georgia teammate and Georgia football staff member before driving away. The fatal crash occurred on January 15.

The report states that Carter initially told police he was about a mile away when the fatal crash happened. It also says that he was behind the other vehicle and could see its taillights, but then said he was alongside the other car when the fatal crash occurred.

In the car with Georiga football staffer Chandler LeCroy and Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock who both died in the crash were another football player and staffer who were both injured.

Police questioned whether Carter was racing the other car, but the Georgia defensive lineman denied it. Until now, the report from the incident stated it was a single-car crash caused by excessive speeding by LeCroy who was behind the wheel of the car. At this time it is not known whether this new information will put Carter in any legal trouble with his car being at the scene.

UPDATE: Carter’s statement has been released:
